The HCA program is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop the
knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to function effectively as front-line caregivers and respected members of the health care team.
Under the direction and supervision of a regulated health professional, graduates provide
person-centred care aimed at promoting and maintaining the
physical, psychological, cognitive, social, and spiritual health and well-being of clients and families.

Evidence of completion of the following must be in student files prior to the first practice education experience. All documentation must be current and valid.
Required Certifications & Documentation:
Note: Some practice education partner sites may require additional certifications. Students must comply with the practicum standards and online orientation requirements of their assigned Health Authority.
To be considered for admission, applicants must submit verifiable evidence of both of the following requirements prior to acceptance:
Proof of Grade 10 completion (or equivalent) OR mature student status
Proof of meeting HCA Program Entry – English Language Competency Requirements Must
meet the English language proficiency as set by the B.C. Care Aide and Community Health
Worker Registry:
For applicants with three years of full-time instruction in English*: English 10 completion or equivalent
For applicants with less than three years of full-time instruction in English: Standardized English language proficiency test score
International students must provide a clear police certificate from their country of origin as a program entry requirement.
Westminster College is currently not accepting applications from international students residing outside of Canada, nor from individuals within Canada who require a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) to apply for a study permit.
International students or temporary residents in Canada may apply to programs that are six months or shorter in duration, or that can be completed within six months. As per Immigration Canada regulations, study permits are not required for programs of this length.
